Spotlight on Kate Eiseman
Kate Eiseman is a sophomore Architectural Studies major from San Francisco, California. During her senior year in high school, Kate and four of her friends designed and built a functioning greenhouse for their senior project at Marin Academy. The Solar Decathlon project is one of the many things that first drew Kate to Middlebury College, and she joined the team during Winter Term of her freshman year. In her first few months on the team, Kate assumed the role of Health and Safety Officer, a role she still holds today. As Health and Safety Officer, Kate is responsible for the safety of all team members on the job site and holds the 30-Hour OSHA certification required by the Department of Energy. Beyond health and safety, in the Fall of 2102, Kate assumed the role of Construction Coordinator for Team Middlebury College. As Construction Coordinator, Kate facilitates communication between the various members of the Construction Team, acts as their liaison to the team as a whole, and ultimately is responsible for the setting and meeting of all construction goals. Kate is in regular communication with the administration and outside contractors working in conjunction with the Middlebury College team.
Aside from the Solar Decathlon project, Kate is passionate about the outdoors and the environment. She has taken a couple of math classes here, at Middlebury College. Calculus One, taught by Professor Bill Peterson, was one of the favorite classes she has taken thus far mostly because of the good advice offered mid-proof by Professor Peterson.
Going forward, Kate will remain an integral part of the Solar Decathlon Team! She will be on campus during Spring Break working on the house, and hopes to stay in Middlebury this summer, building our house. Kate hopes to study abroad at the architecture program in Copenhagen, but will see InSite through to the end before departing!
