Insite Wins Big at Chili Festival!
The town of Middlebury hosted Vermont’s 5th annual Chili festival this past Saturday where community members of greater Vermont and students of Middlebury College spent the day enjoying the beautiful weather, trying delicious chili recipes and supporting the Solar Decathlon. Our ‘Bite of InSite’ vegetarian chili was lucky enough to be served alongside Middlebury College Dining Services ‘Snowbowl Chili’ and their Jalapeño Corn Bread. Just a few weeks ago, InSite team members expressed an interest in teaming up with Middlebury College’s Dining Services booth at the much anticipated Chili-Fest and with the help of Bo Cleveland (head Chef of Middlebury Dining Services) and Matthew Biette (Director of Middlebury Dining Services), InSite team members created, cooked, and served their own chili recipe on Saturday morning.
The whole process was a team effort and began with our Project Manager and Communications Coordinator, Gwen Cook, who took the lead creating our recipe which included all sorts of delicious ingredients including chocolate chips to local beer. Gwen and Jonah Merris (our Graphic Design & Marketing manager) started cooking bright and early on Saturday with Bo in the Atwater Dining Hall kitchen. Later in the day, InSite project manager Jack Kerby-Miller and members of our Outreach and Design teams, Danny Nigh and Brendan Scully met Bo in town to set up the booth and start serving chili! People streamed through non-stop all day trying our chili while team members chatted with them about our project. Mid-way through the day, fresh faces kept enthusiasm up as another shift of InSite teammates, Frances Aderhold, Alex Cort, Larson Lovdal and Mariah Levin came down to help out. Thanks to all the InSite team members who volunteered or came to support and try a ‘Bite of InSite’ yesterday at the Chili-Fest! And a special thank you to Bo Cleveland, Matthew Biette and everyone else from Middlebury Dining Services that worked to make it possible!
After tallying the votes, we were informed on Monday afternoon that our ‘Bite of InSite’
chili won 1st place for the most popular Vegetarian Chili at the festival! The team is already discussing the possibility of incorporating our prize-winning recipe into the menu for our dinner party at the competition. We’re excited to rock that Home Entertainment contest!
